Muslim-Christian News Picks for January 21-January 27, 2012

January 27th, 2012

During the week I come across hundreds of news items about Christianity and Islam.  Here is what I found most interesting/significant for the week of January 21-January 27.

An alliance of ultraconservative Islamists won the next largest share of seats, about 25 percent. (New York Times)

Self-Immolation Is on the Rise in the Arab World – More than a year after a young Tunisian set himself on fire and touched off revolutions throughout the Arab world, self-immolation, symbolic of systemic frustration and helplessness, has become increasingly common across the region.  (New York Times)

How will Armenian genocide bill affect France-Turkey relations? – French Senate passes bill criminalizing public denial of Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey in 1915 (CNN)
